FAQ

Q – Why do you prefer to use OC75 transistors in the Tonebender MkI. Didn’t the original use two 2G381′s?

A – Yes the original did use 2G381′s. They’re noisy, inconsistent and just not that good (why do you think the original used an OC75 for Q1?). Substituting OC75′s throughout gives a vastly superior result – same great MkI sound, but quieter and more consistent. It’s important to understand that when the original MkI’s were built, transistors cost the equivalent of £15 each! You didn’t throw the rubbish ones away, just used them in a less critical position. If you really must have 2G381′s, we have them and have supplied the MkI with them fitted.

Q –  Will your 30-6 and 30-2 model amplifier chassis fit into vintage Vox or North Coast Music cabinets?

A – The VPW 30-6 and 30-2 chassis is identical in size to a vintage Jennings Musical Industries AC30 chassis, so there should be no problem.

Q – If I have a question about my MG/Hiwatt JMI (built by Steve Giles), could I contact you?

A – Certainly, and I’ll try to answer it if I can. Of course, for warranty or after sales service issues, you need to contact MG Hiwatt (Mark Lodge) directly, since I no longer have any affiliation with MG, Hiwatt, or JMI Amplification.

Q – I have a vintage JMI AC30 chassis that’s badly in need of a restoration. It has valves missing, no footswitch, and looks to have loads of replaced parts or bad repairs. It sounds awful. Can you help?

A – Absolutely! The last restoration I did was for someone who had been told that all of his transformers were broken and needed replacing. It turned out that none of the transformers needed replacing! The complete restoration cost about £250, including a footswitch. (About the same cost as the new transformer set he didn’t have to buy!)
